Private Tour Guide Booking in Bermuda: Secure the Guide and the Clock First

Bermuda Heritage Tours runs private guided heritage tours and cruise shore excursions in Bermuda. To book, send us your date, your ship or hotel and your group’s interests.
When you book a private guide, pin down two things before anything else: who will lead you, and how the day starts and ends. The route is the part that should stay loose, because a good private tour changes shape around your group once you are on the road.
Private Guides for Cruise Days, Hotel Stays and History Lovers
We offer four kinds of private day, each built around where you start:
- VIP shore excursions with Dockyard pickup and return, built for a cruise day.
- A hotel-to-hotel private Bermuda island tour for guests staying on the island.
- Tours of the UNESCO World Heritage Town of St. George’s, the town we specialize in.
- Forts and military history tours, including the Gibraltar of the West.
Every tour is private and led by Bermuda Tourism Authority-certified local guides. Our tours are personally led by Robin Trimingham and Bill Storie, local authors, journalists and researchers. We are also the official shore excursion operator for Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises.
You can see the formats side by side on our Bermuda private tours booking page. If forts and colonial history are the draw, our guide to tours for history lovers helps you choose.
How a Private Tour Day Unfolds, From First Message to Drop-Off
The order below is fixed. What happens inside each stop is not.
- You tell us your date, where you start (Dockyard if you arrive by ship, or your hotel), who is coming and what interests them.
- We sketch a route around those interests. We build flexible itineraries tailored to guest interests, so the draft is a starting point. You can browse our private Bermuda tour options to get a sense of the possibilities.
- Your guide meets you at your pickup point.
- You tour. Groups stay small, with time for questions and photography. Some itineraries include exclusive access to historic locations unavailable on most tours.
- You are returned to Dockyard or your hotel.
Your timing pressure depends on how you arrived. A hotel guest can move a fort tour to a calmer day. A cruise passenger cannot, so on a ship day the return leg matters more than the length of the stop list.
What Moves the Cost of a Private Bermuda Guide
Four things shape a private quote, and you control most of them.
| Cost driver | How it moves the quote | What you control or can ask |
|---|---|---|
| Start and end point | Dockyard pickup and return and hotel-to-hotel days involve different routes | Say exactly where you start and finish |
| Hours on tour | A longer day covers more ground and needs more guide time | Ask what fits into a shorter day |
| Group make-up | Families with kids may need a slower pace and more breaks | Share ages and any mobility needs up front |
| Stops with special access | Some historic sites need arrangements beyond a drive-by | Ask which stops are included |
For context, air visitors to Bermuda spent an average of $2,051 per person in 2024, a rise of more than 11% year over year, according to the Bermuda Tourism Authority. A guided day is one line in that budget. For a family, the better saving usually comes from dropping stops rather than hours, because tired children get little from an extra photo pull-off. If you are deciding how to book a cruise-day outing, our piece on cruise ship versus independent booking sets out the differences.
What to Ask Before You Hire a Certified Bermuda Guide
Who exactly will guide us?
A strong answer gives you a name and a background you can look up. A weak answer is “one of our team,” which means the person you researched may not be the person in the driver’s seat.
Is the guide certified by the Bermuda Tourism Authority?
You want a clear yes.
How do you protect our time back at the ship?
A convincing operator talks first about return logistics and only then about sights. If the reply lists attractions and skips the return, the ship’s schedule has not been built into the plan.
Can the route change once we are out?
Listen for examples of how the plan adapts: a child flagging, a sudden interest in cannons, rain over the west end. A fixed script read back to you is a shared tour in a smaller vehicle.
Which stops need special access?
A good answer says which sites are included and how entry works. A vague answer like “we’ll see what’s open” leaves the best part of the day to chance.
Our FAQ page answers common booking questions. When you are ready, send your date, ship or hotel and interests through our contact page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I book a private guide for just my cruise day in Bermuda?
Yes. Our VIP shore excursions are designed for a single cruise day, with pickup at Dockyard and a return there at the end. On a ship day, the return is the part to confirm first. Your day is fixed by the ship, unlike a hotel guest’s, so the stops should fit around the time you have, not the other way round. Tell us your arrival details and interests, and we will shape a route that fits the day.
How much does a private Bermuda tour guide cost?
The quote depends on where you start and finish, how many hours you want, who is in your group and whether the route includes stops with special access. The quickest way to an accurate figure is to send us those details up front. If you want to keep the cost down, focus the day on one or two areas instead of trying to cover the whole island in a hurry.
Can a private tour work for a family with young kids?
It can, and it is often the easier format for families. Groups are small, there is time for questions and photo stops, and itineraries flex around the guests’ interests, so the pace can follow the children rather than a fixed schedule. Tell us the children’s ages when you book. That lets us choose stops, such as a fort with cannons, that keep younger travelers engaged.
