Is St. George’s Worth Visiting?

Yes. St. George’s is one of Bermuda’s most historically significant destinations and one of the best places to experience the island beyond its beaches.

Settled in 1612, St. George’s is the oldest continuously inhabited British settlement in the western hemisphere. Together with its surrounding fortifications, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its remarkably well-preserved colonial town and Bermuda’s extensive system of historic coastal defences.

Visitors can explore narrow lanes, centuries-old architecture, St. Peter’s Church, the Unfinished Church, museums and historic forts, while nearby attractions include Fort St. Catherine, Tobacco Bay and some of Bermuda’s most scenic coastline.

St. George’s is particularly rewarding for visitors interested in history, architecture and Bermuda’s culture, but its waterfront, shops, restaurants and beaches make it well worth visiting even if history isn’t your main interest.
