Fort St. Catherine is one of Bermuda’s most impressive historic forts and a must-see for visitors interested in the island’s military history. The first fortification on the site was built in 1614 near the place where survivors of the Sea Venture shipwreck came ashore in 1609. Rebuilt and expanded at least 5 times over the following centuries, the fort now contains one of the best collections of historic British artillery, underground passages and museum exhibits tracing the development of Bermuda’s defenses.

The fort stands beside St. Catherine’s Beach near the town of St. George’s and can easily be combined with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage town, Tobacco Bay, Gates Fort and Alexandra Battery.
